  • Spilled Milk by K.L. Randis

I wanted to start with the published book description on this one: Brooke Nolan is a battered child who makes an anonymous phone call about the escalating brutality in her home. When social services jeopardize her safety, condemning her to keep her father's secret, it's a glass of spilled milk at the dinner table that forces her to speak about the cruelty she's been hiding. In her pursuit of safety and justice, Brooke battles a broken court system that pushes to keep her father in the home. Spilled Milk is a novel of shocking narrative, triumph and resiliency. My Review Spilled Milk is a fascinating memoir about a young girl and her tragic upbringing. I truly had a hard time putting this book down. It was heartbreaking just hearing her story from a child's perspective. It is my understanding that this book is from the personal perspective of the author, along with some creative fiction weaved in. If I'm wrong, please do let me know. This shocking, but true story of domestic abuse is something everyone should read. It is very eye opening. It is a voice for anyone experiencing this type of tragedy who feels alone. The story tells us how she navigated social workers, the court system, and her father's eventual incarceration. It is an emotional roller coaster ride. I laughed and cried. I highly recommend Spilled Milk to anyone who loves memoirs.

  • If You Tell by Gregg Olsen

If You Tell: A True Story of Murder, Family Secrets, and the Unbreakable Bond of Sisterhood Where do I even start with this book? It is a story about three sisters who survived years of torture at the hands of their sadistic mother. New York Times Bestselling Author, Gregg Olsen, did a fantastic job in storytelling. This book kept me on my toes. It is a true story of a seriously twisted family, and one that I highly recommend. It had me turning pages late into the night. It is a riveting, real-life psychological suspense thrill ride I will definitely read more from this author. If you like these kinds of psychological books, read this one. Trust me. • REPLAY by Ken Grimwood

Replay is an oldie, but a goodie. If you haven't read this one, what are you waiting for. This book was first published in 1986. I know, I know, a lifetime ago! But I have to say that it is one of my all time favorites. I have read this book at least three times over the years. And it was the inspiration for my own book, The Many Lives of Ivy Wells, which is book one of four in the series. This is the story of 43 year old Jeff Winston, who died and woke back up in college, at 18 years old, with all of his memories intact. He remembers growing up, marrying, having a child, living his life, and dying. Again. And Again. Each time, he gets the chance to change the way his life will go, knowing the mistakes he made the last time. I found this novel to be such a fun and interesting read. It certainly makes you think about how you would change things in your life if you ever got the chance to do it all over again, knowing what you know now. Ken Grimwood wrote a couple of other books, that I have not yet read, but they are in my To Read Pile. Have you read Replay? If so, tell me your thoughts on the book. -Michelle Files
